The LearnerEducators continually improve their practice by learning from and with others and exploring proven and promising practices that leverage technology to improve student learning.

reflectionEducators as learners is the most critical component of the ISTE standards. Education is constantly evolving, as technology is a leading factor of effective instruction. Educators must continue to learn on a daily basis to meet these ever changing needs.
The Masters of Science in Instructional Technology program provided countless opportunities to meet this standard. Learning opportunities were rigorous, exploratory, and collaborative. Learning was not acquired; it was constructed. Reflection was essential to fully develop learning; therefore, blogfolios were the most significant creations to meet this goal. Beyond blogfolios, collaborative projects, which involved communication tools allowed learning to blossom. |

The importance of communication technology is showcased in this blogfolio for IT 648: Digital Communication in Education. Embedded in this blogfolio is a collaborative project, where colleagues and I experimented with various communication tools. Although the PDF attachment is located the blogfolio below, I have added a direct link for easy access.
Media design is at the forefront of learning for this blogfolio: IT 740: Interactive Instructional Media.

Future Learning GoalsMy goal for this standard is to never stop investigating new technology. Although some tools will be duds, most will be game changers! I need to promise myself that I will not get stuck in a rut and continue to use the same methodology year after year. I plan to continue to create blogfolios. I will also integrate student created blogfolios in my 6th grade English class.
As the professional development coordinator for my school, I plan to incorporate blogfolios as a method of communication and learning with the educators in my building. Most professional development opportunities that I have encountered in the past treat teachers as passive learners, who acquire information. I intend to reverse this role and allow teachers to become active learners who construct knowledge through self-initiative. |
